Why prevention, who, when and how?
Well to state the obvious if we can prevent the disease, no surgical or medical correction is necessary.
Who does this apply to? ANY & ALL people living in an environment with gravity! All people on earth! Everyone! That’s right we are all subject to venous disease no matter how great our genetics are just like we are all subject to symptoms of heart failure if our heart valves don’t work – weakness, fatigue, difficulty moving. Similar symptoms with Venous failure – fatigue, weakness, difficulty moving.
Prevention is only applicable when the disease can be prevented, before the valves are broken. This applies to young and old alike, those that do not have disease as well as those that do. Even if you have disease you likely have veins that have valves that work and you want to prevent those from failing.
Many of my patients have gone through extensive treatments and I spend every moment telling them the hardest part of any treatment is prevention. Venous disease as well as many others can recur if we do not prevent this from happening.
How do we prevent venous disease recurrence? Conservative measures: Elevating legs when resting, Exercising, Compression to our veins and Hydration/Lubrication. The vessels are emptied with compression elevation and exercise but hydration and lubrication of blood is often overlooked. To move blood we have to look at blood itself not just the vessels. Blood moves better when its thin like engine oil – hydration. Lubrication of blood with Aspirin, Omega-3s and Fish oil accomplishes the act of making blood “Slippery”, getting into and out of tighter spaces easier.
The above is a small part of the daily education of my patients. Schedule today for one our our lessons in the Art of our Medical practice and the unique approach we take with each patient everyday.
Take care, God Bless and have a wonderful year!
